The South Dakota Electrical Inspector Learning Course provides the training and practice necessary to prepare for the South Dakota State Electrical Inspector exam. The course focuses on the following topics:

Electrical theory, including resistivity and conducitivity, series and parallel circuits, alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) circuits, Ohm's Law, capacitance, inductance in AC and DC circuits, magnetic fields and inductive reactance, transformers and their operation, transformers in parallel and series circuits. Installation of electrical equipment, including grounding systems. Electrical construction practices as required by the National Electrical Code® (NEC®). Wiring techniques associated with lighting systems such as incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps, lampholders and fixtures. Power sources associated with lighting systems such as fuses or circuit breakers used in conjunction with branch circuits or feeders that supply power to lighting equipment. Grounding of electrical equipment associated with lighting systems using a grounding electrode system or other approved method acceptable to the code official. Wiring techniques associated with electrical devices such as motors sized at over 1 horsepower up to 25 horsepower per motor rating as well as controllers used in conjunction with motors.
