The South Dakota Professional Learning Course is designed to provide the educational foundation required of all licensed professional engineers in South Dakota. The course consists of five units: (1) professional responsibility; (2) engineering economics; (3) engineering mechanics; (4) materials science and engineering; and (5) electrical circuits and electronics.

The course is designed to provide the student with knowledge of basic engineering principles, problem solving methodologies, and state-of-the-art design techniques. It also provides the student with a working knowledge of the responsibilities of practicing engineers within their respective fields.
