Nurses aide courses are available in South Dakota. The state requires that students complete a course before they can take the NCLEX-PN examination. The cost of this course is $135.00 and it must be taken within three years of passing your state exam.
The South Dakota Board of Nursing requires that you have been working as an aide for at least ninety days before taking the examination. The exam consists of seventy questions and you are given two hours to complete it. If you fail, you will be given an opportunity to retake it after thirty days from the date of your first attempt. The second attempt is free but if you fail again, you will have to pay $30 for each additional attempt.
After passing all required examinations, you may apply for certification through the State Board of Nursing by submitting an application form along with a nonrefundable fee of $50 and proof of completion of required courses and training programs along with proof that you have completed at least 90 days as a certified nurse aide prior to applying for certification.
