South Dakota School Social Worker Learning Course
[South Dakota School Social Worker Learning Course] This course is a comprehensive overview of the South Dakota School Social Worker Practice Act. The course is designed to provide school social workers with an understanding of their role as outlined in the South Dakota School Social Worker Practice Act, and how that role relates to other components of the educational system.
The South Dakota School Social Worker Practice Act was created in 2013 and went into effect July 1, 2016. The law requires all school districts to have at least one licensed school social worker who meets the requirements set forth in SDCL 13-35-18A.
One of the most important aspects of this law is that it defines what a school social worker is and what they do. The law states:
"School social worker" means a person who has been issued a license by the board through an application process established by board rule who provides direct services to students and families in schools.
