South Dakota School Teacher, Elementary Learning Course is a state-approved alternative teacher preparation program for students who are certified in another state. Students who complete this program are eligible to teach in South Dakota. Students must complete all prerequisites, 30 semester hours of coursework and pass the Praxis II (Elementary Education) exam or be eligible to take the exam.

The purpose of this program is to provide an alternative means for highly qualified individuals to obtain certification as teachers in South Dakota. This program will allow individuals with a bachelor's degree in any field and appropriate professional experience to earn a teaching certificate within two years.
