Public Weighmaster is a term used in commerce to describe an individual who is authorized by an agency or the State of Tennessee to license, examine and test scales and balances. The Public Weighmaster is also authorized to issue certificates of approval for weighing devices and give advice on the laws governing weights and measures.
The Tennessee Department of Agriculture has been delegated authority by the State legislature to license public weighmasters. This authority was given to the Department in 1952 through Public Acts of Tennessee No. 849, which became effective July 1, 1953.The Tennessee Public Weighmaster License Learning Course is a self-paced, competency-based course designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills needed to perform as a public weighmaster.
The course includes videos, audio files and interactive exercises that allow the student to learn at their own pace. The student is required to complete all components of the course before receiving their certificate of completion.
The course is aligned with TN DOR Chapter 5500-2-1-.05 (Public Weighmasters' Manual) and meets the requirements for certification by the Tennessee Department of Revenue Division of Weights and Measures.
