Landscape architects are licensed by the Board of Professional Landscape Architects to practice landscape architecture in Virginia. The Board issues registration cards to individuals who have met the requirements for licensure. To become a registered landscape architect, you must complete a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from an accredited institution and pass the National Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) Landscape Architect Registration Examination (LARE). You can then work as a landscape architect in Virginia.
To be eligible for licensure as a landscape architect, you must:
Have at least five years of full-time professional experience under the supervision of another registered landscape architect; or three years of full-time post-professional experience under the supervision of another registered landscape architect; or two years of full-time post-professional experience under the supervision of another registered landscape architect if you hold a master's degree in landscape architecture from an accredited program; or one year of full-time post-professional experience under the supervision of another registered landscape architect if you hold a master's degree in architecture from an accredited program.
