This course is designed to provide a broad introduction to the geology of Washington State. The course will cover the principles of geology, mineralogy and structure, plate tectonics, and earth processes. Students will learn how to use the tools of geology in their field work and classroom studies. The course is appropriate for students with an interest in earth science who have completed high school courses in chemistry and physics. Students are required to have a working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Word.

Students must be able to read maps, aerial photographs, topographic maps and other printed material; must be able to use compass, sextant or protractor; must be able to calculate distances with paper or electronic devices such as GPS receivers; must be able to read maps in metric units such as meters and centimeters; must be able to calculate slope angles using digital inclinometers; must be able to identify minerals using hand lens or microscope; must know how different types of rocks weather under different conditions (exposure); must know how rocks form from molten material (magma), sedimentary particles deposited by wind or water (lithification), or when pressure is applied from above (metamorphism); Learning Course is a platform that helps students to study and learn. The platform provides all the required material for the students to study. The material includes Study guide, Exam Questions & Answers, Study Notes and other resources that are useful for the students. It also gives information about the upcoming exams so that students can prepare themselves accordingly.
