The Washington State Guard is the state defense force of Washington. The state defense force is a military entity authorized by the federal government and recognized by the governor of each state. The mission of the Washington State Guard is to provide trained and disciplined forces for domestic emergencies or as otherwise provided by state law. Members of the Washington State Guard must be able to perform any duty that may be required by law or executive order.
The Washington State Guard consists of two major components: The Army National Guard, which performs federal missions under United States Code Title 10, and the Air National Guard, which performs federal missions under United States Code Title 32.
