The Washington State Department of Health has developed this course to help Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) meet the requirements for renewal of their license. This program is intended for LPNs who want to renew their license and maintain competency in the practice of nursing. The content areas include: professionalism and ethics; communication skills; therapeutic communication in health care settings; cultural diversity and sensitivity; medication administration and patient education; infection control; nutrition counseling and management; medical-surgical nursing; pediatrics and neonatal care; home health care nursing; psychiatric-mental health nursing; maternal-fetal/perinatal nursing; pediatric nursing; geriatric nursing; end-of-life care and grief counseling. This course is based on the Washington State Nursing Care Standards Board's competencies for professional practice as published in their Scope & Standards of Professional Nursing Practice document.
