The Washington State Department of Health is responsible for licensing and regulating mental health counselors. The department licenses and regulates professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, psychologists, independent clinical social worker-marital and family therapists, certified mental health counselors and alcohol and drug abuse counselors.

The department also investigates complaints against licensed professionals. Complaints may be filed by any person or organization.

Mental Health Counselor Learning Courses - Requirements in Washington State:

In order to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington State (WA), you must meet the following requirements:

You must be at least 18 years old.

You must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.

You must have completed 60 quarter hours (30 semester hours) of undergraduate coursework from an accredited college or university. At least 18 quarter hours must be in psychology including abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, abnormal child psychology and general psychology with laboratory work; at least 12 quarter hours must be in professional counseling; at least 6 quarter hours must be in social science courses that include statistics or research methods; and at least 6 quarter hours must be in statistics or research methods courses; Learning Course is a platform that helps students to study and learn. It also gives information about the upcoming exams so that students can prepare themselves accordingly.
