Nurse anesthetists are licensed by their state board to administer anesthesia services under the direction of anesthesiologists. Nurse anesthetists are educated at one of several master's level programs nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA). The program generally takes two years to complete full-time, although some programs offer part-time options.
