The West Virginia Board of Pharmacy requires that pharmacy technicians obtain a minimum of 40 hours of training and pass a written examination. The Board of Pharmacy provides the examination, which is administered at all West Virginia pharmacies. If you are interested in becoming a pharmacy tech, you can contact your local pharmacy or the Board of Pharmacy to find out when and where the next exam will take place.

West Virginia has requirements for pharmacy technicians that must be met before they can perform their duties:

They must have an Associate's degree from a school accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). This degree should include at least 1 year of college coursework and at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in a program approved by ACPE. It should also include pharmacology, chemistry and mathematics courses with a grade point average of 2.75 or higher on a 4-point scale. Individuals who already have an AAS degree do not need to take any additional courses; however, they still need to meet the GPA requirement mentioned above.
