Wisconsin (WI) PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT (School) License Learning Course is a 6-month long program. The course is designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge required to work in schools. Students will learn about effective communication techniques and how to handle challenging situations.

The program begins with an introduction to the role of physical therapist assistants in schools. Students will have an opportunity to explore different aspects of this profession including health promotion, personal fitness, prevention and management of disease, physical activity and nutrition, therapeutic exercise and sports medicine.

Students will also learn how to administer manual therapy techniques such as soft tissue mobilization and joint manipulation. The course includes some practical sessions where students will be able to practice their newly acquired skills on their patients. In addition, students will also study anatomy and physiology as well as common conditions that affect students in school settings such as asthma and diabetes mellitus type 1.

Students who successfully complete this course can apply for certification from the National Board for Certification in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (NBCOT).
